A Braces-Friendly Valentine’s Day

A Braces Friendly Valentine's Day

It’s almost Valentine’s Day! Even though this holiday is all about treats and sweets, your braces won’t stop you from celebrating! There are plenty of ways for you to enjoy Valentine’s Day without damaging your braces. Whether you’re celebrating with your valentine or flying solo this year, we’ve put together some great braces-friendly ideas for your holiday!

Braces-friendly Treats

A lot of traditional Valentine’s Day treats, like conversation hearts and lollipops, can cause serious damage to your braces. In general, we encourage our patients to avoid candy whenever possible because it is often sticky, chewy, and full of corrosive sugars.

However, occasionally treating yourself to soft candy that is safe for your braces can be perfectly fine for special occasions! This Valentine’s Day, go for treats like festive marshmallows, or chocolates that do not contain caramel, toffee, or nuts. If you’re feeling creative, try making a special Valentine’s Day dessert with strawberries and whipped cream!

If your valentine has braces or other dental concerns, take these into account when choosing their gift. Go for any of the treats listed above, or make them a soft dinner that you know they can enjoy! Another Valentine’s Day classic that makes the perfect gift for someone with braces is flowers!

Alternate Activities

Of course, there are plenty of ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day without sugary treats! Aside from flowers, you can try making your own valentines with whatever craft and art supplies you have on hand. You can even make a social gathering out of it and throw a DIY valentine party! A handmade, heartfelt card is such a special gift! You can also make other Valentine’s Day themed crafts with your friends and loved ones to celebrate and get creative!

If you are planning to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a date or with friends, plan a fun activity that doesn’t involve foods that can damage your braces! Spend a fun day outdoors at one of our beautiful parks nearby in Roswell or Alpharetta, have lunch at your favorite restaurant, or go to a movie and skip the popcorn!

Invisalign Valentines

If you have Invisalign, that means you will be able to remove your trays if you choose to indulge in holiday treats! While this does give you more flexibility, remember that your Invisalign trays need to be worn for at least 22 hours per day for maximum efficiency. If you do decide to treat yourself to some candy, be sure to thoroughly brush and floss your teeth before putting your trays back in. Any sugars left in your mouth from food can cause serious damage to your teeth and Invisalign retainers, especially when sealed under your trays.
